Five Fun Free Apps for Babies

These days I can not walk out of the room without getting scolded by my nine month old. Don't get me wrong. I'm completely thrilled that I'm his favorite person to be around and he wants to be with Momma 24-7 but once in awhile I actually need to do something.

I always said I would not let the babe use the iPad. *sigh* I guess there is a time and a place for everything. Too ease my guilt the babe watches zero TV. The only exception has been his Baby Einstein, Old McDonald on The Farm video which I resort to maybe once or twice a week. But since he started crawling he won't even sit for that.

I'm not even sure what sent me searching for apps for babies but I did. And I ended up finding a couple of cute Fisher Price ones that made even myself giggle. They sure do delight the babycakes and they manage to occupy him long enough for me to get a load of laundry folded or tend to dinner. There are times when I'm not sure how much he plays with the apps vs. how much he just likes to manipulate the iPad by flipping it back and forth over and over again. But hey whatever works! Any one of these apps will buy me five to ten minutes when used sporadically. Oh, and did I mention they are FREE!

In case you are a bit like me and happen to also be looking for a free five minutes to ....oh.... I don't know... pee maybe? I wanted to share these five fun apps with you. They are very cute,  entertaining, and not completely devoid of educational value. Hey...it's worth a shot!
  1.  Fisher Price Giggle Gang - this one is too cute! When baby touches the screen these little characters appear and giggle like crazy. One can not help but laugh. There's a piano mode too. This one had everyone giggling at first!
  2. Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Animal Sounds  - this is the babe's favorite, hands down. He loves to watch the animals and touch them to hear their sounds.
  3. Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Let's Count Animals
  4. Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Where's Puppy's Nose? (this one appears to be only for iPad)
  5. Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Shapes Colors & Music - this is similar in look and feel to the giggle gang app but the characters are shapes
Do you let your little ones use any apps? If you've found any good ones please share!

Ps. I am in no way affiliated with Fisher Price. I just happen to have found these apps and wanted to share them with you :)

  1. iTunes has a free baby soother app, we used it when our little guy was 2 months old...though during a cranky dinner time, we will bust it out. It rotates a couple scenes and plays soft, tinkly music. I recommend!

  2. My son is almost two and still loves all four of these apps. I got them for him over a year and a half ago, and I am happy to say the updates have also grown with him and keep him engaged. Highly recommend these.

  5. There is a series of apps my 21 month old loves, the trial is free, but if they want to go more in-depth it's 1.99. One is called twinkle twinkle little star, and the other is If your happy and you know it. He loved these two so much that I did by the full version, and learned twinkle twinkle little star on his own! They have puzzles, matching games, find it games, and other little games within the apps. It was worth the couple of bucks just to hear him sing the song!

  6. A few we like are: Glow Draw, Peekaboo HD, I hear ewe, Baby piano, and fun bubbles. Also we really like Tab Tale books, they have lots of interactive books and some games. Some of the books are free but not all.

  9. Peek a Boo Barn!!! There is a free lite version that my little one loves!! I ht the eventually bought the $ 1.99 version but the free one is great too!The animals are inside the barn making their animal sounds and your little one has to touch the barn and it opens and says the name of the animal and it makes its sound again. My little 8 month old plays with this for 10 minutes at a time! She is getting so good at touching the touchscreen, good practice for our little technological babies in training!! :)

  11. I just came across a great one - Endless Alphabet. There are adorable little monsters that help to spell, define, and animate big words. Absolutely adorable and also free!

  12. The first app my baby used and LOVED was called "Barnyard" they have various levels that are not free, but the first two are free. The first one is the best for very young babies, it has a bunch of animals, trees and flowers on the screen and when you touch them they move and make sounds. It allows for little hands to be all over and everything reacts, she found this super fun (no ads to accidentally hit). It was the first time we saw her actively going for something she found fun (she loved the owl), after putting her hands all over first of course! I highly recommend this for babies that are too young to really do anything constructive.
